September #ēCOmmunity – Allison Hughes

ēCO Credit Union remains devoted to supporting the communities where our members reside, work, and play. We have the great privilege of honoring those that go above and beyond for their community through the #ēCOmmunity campaign. ēCO employees choose who is "Credit Unioned" based on how effectively the credit union's "People Helping People" principle is embodied in them.

Gardendale’s Assistant Branch Manager, Jessie Anthony, nominated Allison Hughes to be “Credit Unioned” for September. “She lives out the motto of ‘People Helping People’ and is always ready to help in any way needed,” said Jessie. “She takes wonderful care of her students,” she added.

Allison Hughes teaches all subjects for the 1st grade at Snow Rogers Elementary School. Not only does she just teach, but she is a steady beacon of support for her students when they are in her care. Whether that is wiping noses, opening food packets, or anything else that goes with taking care of her students. Ms. Hughes has spent 13 years in education as a teacher, and is currently in her 2nd year at Snow Rogers Elementary School.

When asked about the most fulfilling aspect of serving her community, Ms. Hughes replied, “I like to see growth. Relationships first, and then second is academic growth!” Ms. Hughes said, “I know if I did a good job or not by [the students] growth.”

Ms. Hughes is married to her husband, Adam. Together, they have one young son named Anders. “My life is teaching and being a mom,” said Ms. Hughes when asked about her passions and hobbies. Allison and her family enjoy being outside most of the time, whether that is playing or grilling out!

“I am surprised and shocked. I was not expecting it. I did not even know this was an award.” said Ms. Hughes when asked about being “Credit Unioned.”

The credit union's "People Helping People" principle is best embodied by Allison Hughes. Allison attends recitals and ball games to give her students a sense of importance. By demonstrating to them that their teacher cares about them, she can get them to care about her lessons as well.

“It is really, to me, very honorable because so much is expected out of teachers... I really like that [ēCO] gives back to the community,” said Ms. Hughes.

Allison Hughes was pleasantly surprised at Snow Rogers Elementary School, with a gift basket and a generous gift card, by ēCO Credit Union employees, her students, and Snow Rogers staff.

We are appreciative of Allison Hughes' outstanding work in the community. The credit union's basic principle is "People Helping People," and we are grateful to individuals like Ms. Hughes who are constantly ready to provide a helpful hand.
