July #ēCOmmunity- Marla Townsend

ēCO Credit Union continues to have a strong commitment to the communities where our members live, work, and play. We are excited to continue the #eCOmmunity program in 2023. We are proud to recognize those who go above and beyond for their community through the #eCOmmunity initiative.

Members of the community who embody the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” are nominated by ēCO employees to be “Credit Unioned.”

Gardendale Branch Manager, Kathryn Johnson, nominated Marla to be “Credit Unioned” for July. “Marla immediately came to mind to be nominated because she has a true servant’s heart. She is always thinking of others and finding ways on how she can help others succeed.,” said Kathryn.

Marla said, “ēCO Credit Union has always been like a family to me. If I needed something they were always there to help. The staff here has always made my day-to-day an easy process and that means a lot to me. To be recognized by ēCO makes me reflect on those huge parts of my life where it feels as if they have watched me grow as an adult.”

“Marla pours herself into making many people feel stronger and making them better versions of themselves. Her goal is to see others succeed. Whether she’s running a softball clinic for many, coaching a few girls on a field or talking to a large group about how they can succeed in their lives she just gives back to the communities around her. Many people look up to Marla and when they see her it makes them want to smile as well.,” said Kathryn.

Marla is a motivational speaker, has a non-profit called Empower You where she helps others find their goal to success, and is in the process of writing her first book. She is also a retired coach and educator of 34 years. Marla is also a mother of 2 and is all about family. She enjoys taking care of her farm and being with her family. Some of her hobbies include hosting events where she teaches others how to make their dreams a reality, working with youth organizations, outreach with her church, and she is also involved with Jefferson County School Systems.

“The most rewarding part of my job and serving within my community is to help and empower others. When I was coaching, to me it was more than just winning games, it was winning the championship of life. That is my emphasis now and what motivates me to help others, is to help them win the championship of life. So many others have paved the way and influenced me to do what I do and that’s what motivates me to help others.” Said Marla.

ēCO Credit Union employees surprised Marla with a gift basket and VISA gift card at the Gardendale Branch.

Thank you, Marla, for influencing, motivating, and helping others turn their dreams into reality! We are so grateful for people like you that are always happy to help others and being the exact representation of what the credit union stands for, “People Helping People”.
