ēCO Credit Union remains dedicated to supporting the communities where our members reside, work, and play. Through the #eCOmmunity initiative, we have the distinct honor of recognizing those who go above and beyond for their community. Employees of ēCO select individuals to be "Credit Unioned" based on how well they embody the credit union's "People Helping People" philosophy.
McCalla’s Branch Manager, Je’Nae Washington, nominated Karl Powe to be “Credit Unioned” for August. “He leads his staff to want to do better for Minor High School’s athletic program,” said Je’Nae. “He truly cares about his students and his community. He leaves a positive and influential impact on everyone he comes in contact with,” she added.
Karl Powe teaches Special Education in Reading and Math and serves as the Athletic Director for Minor High School. Mr. Powe has been in education for 35 years and assists students with their day-to-day activities to grow student success.
"It's not work," the Athletic Director said in response to a question about the most fulfilling aspect of serving his community. “It is something I enjoy doing. When a person loves the job that he’s doing, he never has to work a day in his life," Mr. Powe continued.
Mr. Powe is married with 2 children and 5 grandchildren. The foundation for the extraordinary achievement of their children and grandchildren was established by Mr. and Mrs. Powe. His passions and hobbies include golfing and educating kids.
“Honored and proud... It was actually breathtaking – this was a shocker. I am gratefully surprised.” said Mr. Powe when asked about being “Credit Unioned.”
Karl Powe epitomizes the credit union's "People Helping People" philosophy. Mr. Powe is a true example of what it means to help others, whether it is supporting all athletic events, seeking sponsorships for the school, and cultivating strong bonds with the parents of students at Minor High School.
“The help and support that you get from eCO is outstanding. I am proud to be a member of eCO,” said Karl Powe.
ēCO Credit Union employees, alongside Mrs. Powe and Minor High School staff, surprised Karl Powe with a gift basket and generous gift card at Minor High School.
We are grateful to Karl Powe for over three decades worth of community service. The credit union's core values are "People Helping People," and we are appreciative of people like Mr. Powe who are always willing to provide a helping hand.
