May #eCOmmunity - Dorothy Brown

ēCO Credit Union has a strong commitment to the communities where our members live, work, and play. We are excited to continue the #eCOmmunity program in 2022. We are proud to recognize those who go above and beyond for their community through the #eCOmmunity initiative.

Each month, members of the community who embody the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” are nominated by ēCO employees to be “Credit Unioned.”

Homewood Branch Manager, Dalana Crowder, nominated Mrs. Dorothy Brown to be “Credit Unioned” for May. “She gives faithfully to her church and community,” said Crowder. “She is all about helping others. There are many times we have heard her speak of someone in need, whether it is someone in her church or just in the community, and she will send them a card of encouragement or help financially if needed.”

Mrs. Brown has been a member of ēCO for over 40 years. She retired from the shoe business in 2020. She currently takes care of her husband, who has Parkinson’s Disease and cares for her 9-year-old twin nieces. Mrs. Brown and her husband have one daughter, who teaches ESL (English as a second language) in China.

“She has such a caring heart and is willing to help however she can,” said Dalana. “She says that she has a mama’s heart that makes her want to help when she sees someone in need.”

Mrs. Brown is a long-time member of her church, where she helps with mission work. She is also part of an alumni group for Wenona High School, where she attended, which helps raise money for programs within the school. Most recently, she and the other alumni group members raised over $10,000 to provide the band with new uniforms. The group also keeps up with when those in the community are in need and will come together to provide help however they can.

“My community means a lot to me because we all know each other. We all help each other. I want my community to know they can depend on me to help,” said Mrs. Brown.

ēCO employees surprised Mrs. Dorothy Brown at the Homewood Branch on Monday, April 23, with an Applebee’s gift card.

Thank you, Mrs. Brown, for your service to your community and for always being willing to lend a helping hand! We are so grateful for people like you who go above and beyond to help where there is a need.
